Ford Fusion: Automatic Transmission External Controls - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission – 6F35 / Transmission Range Control Module (TRCM). Removal and Installation

Removal

  1. With the vehicle in N, position it on a hoist.
    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. NOTE: When installing a new TRCM, it is necessary to initiate "Default to Park".

    Perform the following steps to initiate "Default to Park".
    1. Remove the RH fender splash shield.
      Refer to: Fender Splash Shield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
    1. Turn key on, engine off.
    1. Open the driver door and leave open.
    1. Shift the vehicle to R by selecting R on the GSM.
    1. NOTE: Release the locking tab on the TRCM electrical connector before disconnecting.

      Disconnect the TRCM electrical connector and wait approximately 5 seconds until "Default to Park" initiates.
    1. Turn the key off and close the driver door.
  1. Detach the wiring harness retainer.

  1. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the TRCM lever.

  1. Remove the retaining clip bolt and detach the selector lever cable from the selector lever cable bracket.

  1. Remove the bolts and the TRCM.

Installation

  1. Install the TRCM and the bolts.
    Torque: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

  1. Attach the selector lever cable to the selector lever cable bracket and install the retaining clip bolt.
    Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

  1. Connect the selector lever cable to the TRCM lever.

  1. Attach the wiring harness retainer and connect the TRCM electrical connector.

  1. Install the RH fender splash shield.
    Refer to: Fender Splash Shield (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
  1. Adjust the selector lever cable.
