Ford Fusion: Engine - 1.5L EcoBoost (118kW/160PS) – I4 / Piston. Disassembly and Assembly of Subassemblies

Materials

DISASSEMBLY

1. Remove and discard the piston rings.
   

1. • Remove and discard the piston pin retainers.
     
   • Remove the piston pin.
     

1. Remove the piston from the connecting rod.
   

1. Inspect the piston and connecting rod.
   Refer to: Piston Inspection (303-00 Engine System - General Information, General Procedures).
   

ASSEMBLY

1. Indicates front of engine.
   

1. Install the piston to the connecting rod.
   

1. Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the piston pin.
   Material: Engine Oil - SAE 5W-20 - Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W20-Q1SP (WSS-M2C945-B1)

1. Install the new piston pin retainers.
   

1. Lubricate with clean engine oil and install the new piston rings.
   Material: Engine Oil - SAE 5W-20 - Synthetic Blend Motor Oil / XO-5W20-Q1SP (WSS-M2C945-B1)

1. NOTE: The upper and lower compression rings are to be fitted with the identification marks on the upper side.

   NOTE: Arrows faces the front of the engine.

   NOTE: Align the piston rings on the piston.

   1. Upper compression ring gap location.
      
   2. Lower compression ring gap location.
      
   3. Upper oil control segment ring gap location.
      
   4. Expander ring gap location.
      
   5. Lower oil control segment ring gap location.
