Ford Fusion: Automatic Transmission External Controls - 6-Speed Automatic Transmission – 6F35 / Brake Shift Interlock Actuator Manual Override. General Procedures

Activation

  1. NOTE: This vehicle is equipped with a brake shift interlock feature that prevents the vehicle from being moved out of P when the ignition is in the ON position until the brake pedal is applied. Proceed with this procedure if the vehicle cannot be moved out of the P position when the ignition is in the ON position and the brake pedal is applied.

    Check for brake shift interlock actuator DTC. If brake shift interlock actuator DTC are present,

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and apply the parking brake.

  1. Open the floor console stowage bin lid.

  1. NOTE: When the GSM flashes, the vehicle is in override mode.

    Using a small screwdriver, press and hold the brake shift interlock override switch.

  1. NOTE: If it is necessary for the vehicle to stay in N without the driver present, such as being pulled through a car wash, this mode disables Return to Park. In Stay in Neutral the system will remain awake draining the battery if the engine is off. When you enter N at low speed a message will be displayed stating press the L button to stay in neutral mode. Then, if the driver presses N and the L button within the time limit, the message Stay in Neutral Mode appears on the multifunction display. During this mode the N position on the GSM flashes continuously and the instrument cluster will display N as the selected gear. To exit the Stay in Neutral Mode, shift out of N.

    While holding the brake shift interlock override switch, rotate the GSM to the N position.
