Ford Fusion: Supplemental Restraint System / Passenger Airbag. Removal and Installation
Removal

WARNING:
Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete
the backup power supply. Ignition must remain OFF until repair is
complete. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious
personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
If a SRS fault is present, continue to Step 2. Otherwise, turn the ignition OFF, wait at least one minute and continue to Step 3.

Depower the SRS.
Refer to: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering (501-20 Supplemental Restraint System)

Remove the instrument panel upper section.
Refer to: Instrument Panel Upper Section (501-12 Instrument Panel and Console)

Remove the screws.
-

Pull the passenger airbag deployment chute away from the passenger airbag.
-
Rotate the passenger airbag out of the deployment chute and disengage the 4 passenger airbag retainers.
-
Continue to rotate the passenger airbag and remove it from the deployment chute.
Installation
WARNING:
Before installing the passenger air bag module assembly:

Inspect the passenger air bag module and instrument
panel/deployment chute cavity for any damage or foreign material.

Remove any foreign material from the passenger air bag module and instrument panel/deployment chute cavity.

Install new parts if damaged.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in the
passenger air bag deploying incorrectly, which increases the risk of
serious personal injury or death in a crash.

Position the passenger airbag to the deployment chute.
-
Engage the 5 passenger airbag retainers to the deployment chute.
-
-
Pull the passenger airbag deployment chute out, making room for the passenger airbag to pass.
-
Rotate the passenger airbag down and into the deployment chute.

Engage the passenger airbag retainers to the deployment chute.
-
Install the screws.
Torque:
13 lb.in (1.5 Nm)

Install the instrument panel upper section.

If the SRS was depowered, repower the SRS.

Removal
NOTICE:
To prevent system failure, carry out the OCS reset when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new trim cover is installed or an OCS service kit is installed...

Removal
Release the tabs and remove the defroster grille panel.
Use the General Equipment: Interior Trim Remover
Disconnect the electrical connector...
