Ford Fusion: Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems / Exterior Rear Door Handle. Removal and Installation

Removal

Vehicles with push button start

NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.

1. Remove the rear door trim panel.
   Refer to: Rear Door Trim Panel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).
   

1. Remove the rear door watershield.
   

All vehicles

1. Remove the grommet.
   

1. Remove the rear door handle cover assembly.
   
   1. Hold the rear door handle open.
      
   2. While turning the release screw 8 turns. The handle will release around 6 to 6.5 turns. You must continue to the full 8 revolutions for installation.
      
   3. Remove the rear door handle cover assembly.
      

Vehicles with push button start

1. NOTICE: Do not pull the door handle out of the door too far without disconnecting the handle from the connector. Damage to the harness will occur.

   Disconnect the exterior rear door handle connector from the handle from inside the door and remove the exterior rear door handle.
   

Vehicles without push button start

1. 
   Remove the rear exterior door handle.
   
   1. Pull the exterior rear door handle outward.
      
   2. Remove the exterior rear door handle.
      

Installation

Vehicles without push button start

1. 
   Install the rear exterior door handle.
   
   1. Install the rear exterior door handle.
      
   2. Push the exterior rear door handle inside.
      

Vehicles with push button start

1. Connect the exterior rear door handle connector to the handle from inside the door and partially install the rear door handle in the rear door opening.
   

All vehicles

1. Install the rear door handle cover assembly to the door.
   
   1. Install the rear door handle cover assembly to the door.
      
   2. Apply light pressure to the door handle while turning the release screw 8 turns. The handle will engage and go in around 6 to 6.5 turns. You must continue to the full 8 revolutions for installation then torque to the specified value.
      Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

1. Install the grommet.
   

Vehicles with push button start

1. Install the rear door watershield.
   

1. Install the rear door trim panel.
   Refer to: Rear Door Trim Panel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).
