Removal

Vehicles without Auto-Start-Stop System

  1. Remove the air cleaner.
    Refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12B Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) – MI4, Removal and Installation).
    Refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12C Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.5L Duratec (125kW/170PS), Removal and Installation).
    Refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12D Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.7L EcoBoost (238kW/324PS), Removal and Installation).

All vehicles

  1. Remove the battery.
    Refer to: Battery (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).

Vehicles with 2.7L EcoBoost engine

    1. Remove the battery tray nut.
      Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)
    1. Remove the battery tray bolt.
      Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)
    1. Remove the battery tray bolt.
      Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)
    1. Detach the battery cable retainer from the battery tray and remove the battery tray.

Vehicles without 2.7L EcoBoost engine

    1. Detach the battery cable retainers from the battery tray and position the battery cable aside. Remove the 6 mm X 30 mm bolts.
      Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)
    1. Remove the 6 mm X 18 mm bolts and the battery tray.
      Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
